THE SHADOW OF MOTOVUN (July 15, 2011)
I usually get up between nine and ten in the morning, but today I got up at six. It was too hot and humid to sleep. After many a twist and turn in bed, I decided that enough was enough. And I opened all the doors and windows to cool the house down while the air out there was still on the pleasant side. Having been closed while I was in Zagreb, the house got pretty hot. Day by day, the stone walls got hotter and hotter. The only time to cool it down is at night, but the morning light wakes me up even if a single door or windows is left open. Anyhow, I am enjoying this morning tremendously. The sun is projecting the shadow of Motovun onto the vineyards to the west of the hill. The church tower looks magnificent in the projection. I have not seen this spectacle for a long time now. In addition to enjoying the cool air, it has been well worth getting up so early.
