THE ANXIETY DISPELLER (March 24, 2011)

Well into its thirty-sixth year, my writing project is becoming a bit awkward to manage. At the moment, there are more than eleven-thousand pieces of writing and more than two-thousand addenda extending them that collectively contain more than two-million words. Just the directory with titles of my writings, as well as with dates when they were penned, is close to a hundred-thousand words in length spreading over two-hundred and fifty pages. All this takes quite a bit of time and energy to keep in good order. Which is why I get kind of lost during long stays in Zagreb. Although I currently have two computers at my disposal, they are not exactly compatible with each other or the two computers I have at home, where all my records are held. On return to Motovun last night, I immediately turned to updating my files, and it took me quite a while to do that. As well as a good deal of anxiety. There were nearly two-hundred and forty new pieces of writing and close to thirty new addenda. But the job is finished by now. Everything is in order. And my immaculate records give me a lot of pleasure once again. I can only look forward to a single and really portable computer that would serve my purposes no matter where I find myself. Is such a wonder of technology on the horizon already? It must be, I guess. It is just a question of stumbling upon it sometime soon. The anxiety dispeller, to give it a proper name.
