STEVE JOBS FOR SAINT (October 7, 2011)
Most eulogies of Steve Jobs are so extravagant that they are hard to stomach. Innovator of the century. The most creative fellow ever. The best boss on record. And so on, and so forth. De mortius nihil nisi bene, all right, but there should be some limit to the enthusiasm. Anyhow, it has just crossed my mind that the next step is surely up to the Vatican. Steve Jobs for saint, that is. There are many blessed ones who go by the name of Saint Stephen, and he could be easily added to the bulging list. Of Syrian origin through his father, the addition could make quite a splash in the Middle East, of all places. At any rate, the pope and his entourage must have benefited from Apple’s many successes, as well. The intrepid company must have helped millions around the globe find the divine in their lives. Thus I hope this idea will reach the pope’s office in Rome soon enough. It is up to them now. The rest will be history.
