NOT RESPONDING (October 14, 2011)
My Residua website is unreachable once again. The browser on my computer tells me that the server is not responding. As the server is all the way in Calgary, Canada, which is many hours behind Zagreb, it is likely not to be responding for the greater part of my waking day. Something like this happened a bit more than a month ago, and I got paranoid at once (“My Last Paranoia Attack,” September 10, 2011). Is someone hacking my site? According to Paul Bazay, who maintains my site, I was just paranoid, indeed. It is different today, though. Today I am nothing but despondent. The vaunted technology is not working. As simple as that. So much talk about all the wonders ahead is nothing but idle talk. The technology is quite vulnerable. Chances are that it will become increasingly vulnerable, too. And my magnum opus will be unreachable ever more often. It is time to get used to the server or the entire World Wide Web not responding.
Addendum (October 15, 2011)
My website remained unreachable the entire day yesterday. From the time I woke up to the time I went to sleep, it was not responding. I could neither read nor post anything. This was my first experience of this kind since my site was switched to blogging software, which allows me direct access. And I felt not only despondent, but also disoriented. As I was trying to get to my site innumerable times, the disorientation turned into a crisis. I could hardly think of anything else except my forlorn site. This was yet another crisis I would unabashedly call existential.
