MOTOVUN AND I (February 24, 2011)

From time to time I google my own name, just to see what my enemies are doing. One can never tell without checking. Since I am all over the place on the World Wide Web, pictures associated with me also appear on the first page with sundry search results. Five pictures popped up a moment ago, when I last googled my name. And one of them was a picture of Motovun. Motovun as such, as it were. And I was over the moon. My name is closely associated with the name of the Istrian hilltown! It took me a few seconds to check my enthusiasm, though. After all, I almost left Motovun last summer because of so many ugly things that had happened to me there. Many of my enemies still live there, too. But my enthusiasm was not to be budged. Not an iota. As a matter of fact, my enemies only made it stronger. Motovun and I are bound together.

Addendum (November 30, 2016)

As years go by, Motovun and I are getting closer and closer one more time. As of late, my enemies in the hilltown are rapidly receding into insignificance. All the miseries they have put me through are gradually losing importance. Even Slobodan Vugrinec and Klaudio Ivašić bring a smile to my face from time to time. And so does Emil Soldatić, I hasten to add. Ivašić drove his fancy Jeep past me this morning, and I was almost embarrassed by a grin that unexpectedly stretched my lips. I did my best to hide it, too. One way or another, Motovun and I are bound together for true, and I look forward to getting ever longer in the tooth in the shadows of its medieval walls. One look at the Mirna valley from my terrace is enough to make my heart soar like a hawk. What is a handful of enemies by comparison with such heartbreaking beauty?!
