LIQUIDS (February 10, 2011)
I walk into a pharmacy close to my beloved’s apartment and ask for Aspirin with vitamin C. My beloved is convinced that this concoction will help me with my cold. As the pharmacist is returning my change, I mention what ails me: “There is this cough that comes from deep in my chest, but I do not like taking anything against it.” In her late fifties, she gives me a long look before she says anything. “Liquids will be good for you,” she offers at last, “and especially teas.” “How about wine or beer?” I venture at once. “Would they help?” She giggles demurely at my medicine: “Not really!” But my mind is already made up. Liquids are liquids, after all.
