LIKE ROMEO AND JULIET (April 14, 2011)

One of the attractions of my beloved’s apartment in Zagreb is a wooden chessboard and set of figures. After a long search, for she wanted a standard board and set without any embellishments, she found it in London. We play on occasion, but not often enough. The permanent display is there to remind us of the game. Anyhow, I left the black king and the white queen on her pillow before I left the apartment a few hours ago. Standing on the soft surface, they are leaning toward each other. I always do something like this when I leave Zagreb for a while, and my beloved enjoys finding little signs of my attention. But why the black king and the white queen in tender embrace? Like Romeo and Juliet, they go beyond chess. Beyond the rules of the game, that is. What better way to symbolize my beloved and me?
