There are many splendid reasons to make love, most of which have been visited innumerable times, but one of them is to trick Mother Nature out of her own trick.

Addendum (December 11, 2016)

So many years later, I feel like adding a few words to this haiku. What I had in mind when it was penned was tricking Mother Nature without condoms or birth control pills. Ejaculation control is rather foreign to the modern tenderfoot, whence this belated addendum. Alas, the so-called general reader is farthest from my mind when I write, and especially when I write poetry in prose!
