CRIME PAYS IN CROATIA (November 28, 2011)
Every single day I see famous Croatian criminals walking around central Zagreb. I know their faces from newspapers only, but their ugly mugs are unmistakable. Also, they all look a tad bored. They lost their cushy jobs in the government or one of the untold companies in its ownership, but they are free to roam. Although some of them must still be under investigation, and although most of them must be going to court every now and then, they are an affront to see out in the open. Crime pays in Croatia, and the famous criminals walking around the center of its capital are the unassailable proof. Chances are that many of them have some money stashed away in foreign accounts, and so they are far from destitute. They will be back in business in a few short years, anyway. And they will surely help each other find cushy jobs one more time. As for the few remaining idiots like me, justice will forever remain just behind the damned corner.
