This morning I could not get to my Residua website. My computer would only tell me that it was connecting to the site. After a minute or so, I would get a message that the connection had timed out most likely because of server problems. After a few unsuccessful attempts, I sent an electronic-mail message to Paul Bazay, who administers my site from Calgary, Canada. That is where the server is, as well. Call me paranoid, but I immediately thought about yesterday’s letter to The Economist about Chinese schizophrenia. If Chinese repression of their own bloggers is so effective within the country, why should I be surprised about the same repression methods venturing abroad? Luckily, my site popped up on the screen after one more attempt. It was out of reach for some thirty minutes at most. Most likely this happened because the server was being serviced during the night. Calgary is some seven hours behind Motovun.
