AMBISINISTROUS (March 15, 2011)

Ever since childhood, I am ambidextrous. Left and right are the same to me, which occasionally turns into a bit of a problem. A few years ago I was directing my beloved on the road, and I told her to turn right at some point. When she turned the wrong way, I got agitated: “Right, right!” She was going right, though. She was pretty confused by my directions. Since then, I always point with my hand to show which way she is to turn. A few days ago she told me to look to the right to see something of interest to her, and she immediately noticed that I was turning left. I noticed it, too. This morning the misery returned. When I wanted to tell her to turn right as we were walking out of our house, I noticed that I was fumbling for the right word. The word “right” seemed to escape me. But it just came to my mind that I am erring against the right side much more often than I am erring against the left. Chances are that I am actually ambisinistrous.
