VENTILATION GRILLS (July 6, 2014)

As quite a number of my paintings can testify, ventilation grills fascinate me. More, they make me happy. One, two, or three columns of horizontal slits next to each other are just to my taste. As I write, I am occasionally casting a quick glance at three entoptic forms made of Lego bricks, which I started playing with again late last year after a long pause. The size of a small book, each of them has two columns of six horizontal slits. One is blue with yellow slits, another is yellow with red slits, and the third is light green with dark green slits. Standing next to each other, they are a real pleasure to behold. As all of them are identical on both sides, they connect two worlds, one of which is out of sight at any one time. It is thus impossible to tell which of the two worlds is being ventilated. Which is just to my liking, once again. Now I am in this world, and now I am in the other. I am of two worlds, as ever, and all they share are the identical ventilation grills. Simple, strong, serene…
