TWO CHOICES (June 22, 2014)

Jana, the favorite natural mineral water in Croatia, brings you quotes in Croatian and English from Paulo Coelho, one of the writers of world renown I would never even try reading. As we are having our lunch, my beloved picks up the bottle of Jana from the middle of our table, and starts reading: “You have two choices: to control your mind or to let your mind control you.” As it turns out, this is from his novel entitled Veronika Decides to Die (1998). “Idiot,” I mumble, “that’s one choice only!” My beloved is delighted: “You have another text!” I just wave my hand in disgust, but she insists that the quote is worth writing about. In the end, I rip the label with the quote from the bottle and stuff it into my pocket. Indeed, I am facing two choices: the one about the mind is easy enough, but should I write about Coelho’s boo-boo?
