THE MYSTERIOUS BAT (August 14, 2014)

As is my habit, I checked the news on my laptop before going to sleep last night. While I was reading, I heard strange sounds from the window by the dining table. I got up to check what it was, and I saw a small bat between the window and the shutters. It fluttered around every once in a while. Afraid that it would fly into the livingroom if I opened the window, I left it there and returned to my laptop. Looking for it around the house would be quite an ordeal in the dark. Before going to sleep, I checked the window again. There was no sign of the bat, though. And I returned to the window as soon as I woke up this morning. I opened the window ajar, unhinged the shutters, and closed the window again. Then I went to the terrace and opened the shutters. Once again, the mysterious bat was nowhere to be found. It must have crawled into the space between the shutters and the window and then crawled out again. But I cannot find a single hole between the shutters that appears to be big enough for such a visit. The bat must have been very small to squeeze twice through one of the tiny holes I can find there. In Motovun, nature is much closer than one would ever think.
