THE MORE RIDICULOUS, THE BETTER (August 8, 2014)
Although the Ca’ Bon Gallery in Motovun unambiguously offers only my own paintings and books, I regularly get all sorts of mail from interested artists, galleries, museums, and art schools. I do not respond to any of the mail, but I am amused by most of it. Today I got a large envelope from an art school in Austria with images of art installations by its students. Walking out of the post office, I showed them to everyone I knew. There was much laughter. An installation featuring untold cans of food and drink strewn helter-skelter on the floor got the most laughs. And that is the best one can expect from contemporary art. The more ridiculous, the better. As measuring rods go, this one is perfectly straight and sturdy. Everything else is for the birds.
