This morning I learned from Damir Stojnić that he had been fooling around with geomancy for years. One of his projects involves Motovun. Another involves the entire Istrian peninsula. He has found both a pentagram and a hexagram in it. This sounded very like my idea of several years ago (“An Idea for an Exercise in Geomancy,” June 23, 2012). I told him that my text was partly serious and partly a spoof on the work of Marko Pogačnik. I also told him about my peninsular bug, my last exercise in geomancy (“The Istrian Bug,” September 7, 2013). The teasing streak in my artistic endeavors notwithstanding, Damir and I found ourselves on the same page. And this was no less than exciting. As far as I am concerned, this gives me yet another prod in the direction of geomancy in my future work (“Geomancy, Perhaps?” August 31, 2013). And Motovun is the best place for such an endeavor, no doubt (“Landscape, Skyscape,” July 17, 2002). It is the capital of geomancy, as it were.

Addendum (December 17, 2016)

My geomancy cycle is unfolding at a clip. As witnessed by the last two exercises in the divine art, I go for both global and country scales (“The Global Aum,” September 26, 2015; and “The Croatian Vulture,” November 19, 2016). The next exercise will be on continental scale, though. On my last trip to Zagreb, I acquired a splendid map of Europe. With its twenty-eight capitals at present, it offers many an opportunity for a memorable composition. I only wonder about Motovun’s rôle in it. Although it figures as the vulture’s eye in my last exercise in geomancy, I just cannot see it on the map of Europe. Alas, chances are that it will be skipped altogether! Way in advance, I feel almost embarrassed by my neglect of the capital of geomancy…
