THE BORGO BROOK (November 18, 2014)
The rain was amazing last night. There was so much of it that Borgo sounded like a brook. Before going to sleep, I would open the front door of my house over and over again just to see and hear the gurgling water. In my eleven years in Motovun, I have not witnessed so much water in my street. As soon as I woke up, I was eager to open the window and shutters. I expected to see the Mirna valley covered with muddy water. The river did burst its banks, all right, but the flooding was much less pronounced than I expected. In the end, I felt kind of disappointed. I searched the World Wide Web, but I could not find any story about unprecedented flooding in Istria. Perhaps it was only the hilltown and its immediate surroundings that got so much rain, but I will never forget the sound of the warbling brook next to my house. The Borgo brook, to give it its proper name.
