THE BLINKING BLUE LIGHTS (October 22, 2014)

The Queen of Denmark is visiting Zagreb these days. On top of her many meetings with Croatian luminaries, such as the president and the prime minister, she decided to see a film at the Zagreb Film Festival. I just watched her approach the theater in the center of the city, which was surrounded by policemen. Nobody else was in sight. The traffic on the nearby street was interrupted by groups of policemen at every corner. There were six police motorcycles and two police cars with blinking blue lights leading and following a long line of at least six black cars, one of which carried her majesty. She must be used to all this, but I am not. Too much fuss for a mere film, I would say. If I were the Queen of Denmark, I would watch any film I wished in the privacy of my palace. And I would skip all trips to Croatia and suchlike countries. Too much fuss all around. The meetings with luminaries must be quite a chore, as well. Besides, the blinking blue lights would drive me nuts. And I would have to watch them day in and day out. All things considered, I feel fortunate that I am not the Queen of Denmark. Or any other country, for that matter.
