Talking about the weather used to be a British sort of thing. Exposed to a number of weather systems, the British isles have always been fickle in this regard. So much so, in fact, that talking about the weather has long been a part of English lessons across the planet. Things have changed as of late, though. Now everybody is talking about the weather. While New York and New Jersey are battered by fierce snowstorms, Zagreb is going through an unusually warm period. And the temperature is expected to keep rising. It will soon be very like spring in the Croatian capital and its surroundings. But the weather is unusual wherever one looks, and online newspapers reflect it. Ever more so, in fact. People are turning British across the globe. “Hey,” they are saying to each other, “what do you think about the weather?” There are raised eyebrows everywhere. “Strange,” people respond to offhand questions of this kind, “most strange!” Chances are that talking about the weather is here to stay.
