TAKING ME OUT (March 15, 2014)
On our way home from lunch, I keep exclaiming about this or that in plain view. “Look at that dress!” I motion to my beloved. “Look at that hat!” I nudge her a moment later. The restaurant was amazing enough, but the crowded streets and squares we are strolling through are simply mindboggling. It is Saturday, and the whole city is out. Wearing their very best, people parade around the Croatian capital to celebrate the arrival of spring. “Gosh,” I almost lose my step at some point, “look at that nose!” My beloved is not amused, though. “My appreciation of the Zagreb zoo occasionally gets kind of indecent,” I sigh at last. “Perhaps I love these caricatures a bit too much…” Shaking my head, I go for the clincher: “I must admit that human monstrosity entertains me no end.” To her credit, my beloved does not comment at all. She knows that I will calm down as soon as we reach home. “I will take you out in a few hours,” she says calmly just before we reach the front door of her apartment building. And taking me out sums it up pretty well.
