SATURDAY BLUES (May 17, 2014)
After only a month away from Zagreb, it feels kind of strange. And especially on a Saturday, when everyone is out and about. The first thing I notice is the traffic. The bustle and the noise are quite annoying. Although Motovun is far from peaceful, the difference in traffic is startling. The people are much more important, but it takes a bit more time to become aware of them. Once again, many of them strike me as caricatures. The clothing and the hairdos are often amazing to behold. The men do their best to impress with their neckties and hats, and the women make sure to wear the highest of heels and the shortest of skirts. But then there are facial expressions and postures that border on the ridiculous. Everyone is very important in the Croatian capital. And some of them are so important that everyone else should feel no less than fortunate for their very presence. At any rate, I feel fortunate that tomorrow is Sunday. One way or another, I will feel at home in the city of my birth by the next Saturday. By then, both the traffic and the caricatures will be old hat once again.
