There are sixteen passengers in the bus that goes from Umag to Zagreb. As it happens, ten of them are women. And six of them have their hair died various shades of red. All of the shades are obviously artificial. Or fake. But why do women go for red? It used to be henna, a natural die, that they all used, but now there are dies galore, including all shades of, as it were, natural colors. Thus the puzzle. The best I can come up with is that women want it to be known that they are paying special attention to their hair. They do not want anyone to mistake the color of their hair for their own. That is, they want it to be obviously fake. “Look at me,” they are saying as loudly as they can, “I am paying special attention to my looks.” Fair enough, but they must be annoyed when so many women around them are also paying special attention to their looks. A busload of women with red hair must be more than annoying, though. The six women in the bus must be seething with anger.
