PROGRESS REPORT, AGAIN (June 30, 2014)

Years ago, I noticed that I was going nowhere (“Progress Report,” June 25, 1991). I feel similarly today. Step by step, I am getting lost, or so I fear. Things are a bit different at this stage, though. Years back, enlightenment was farthest from my mind. Now it is in front of my eyes day and night. Although it seems to be escaping me all the time, it is ever firmer in my mind. If I am failing in its attainment, this comes mainly from my insufficient attention to yoga, the stilling of the mind. But there are many things I have accomplished lately. I abandoned tobacco last year. And I am on my way to abandon alcohol, as well. This is where my progress is quite palpable. As my addiction to the two perilous substances vanes, I am ever more open to enlightenment. Step by step, I am going somewhere, that is. And it took me only twenty-two years to get from there to here. A few seconds, as it were.
