OUR DOING (May 3, 2014)

As I am going down Borgo on a walk around Motovun, I bump into Mato Mićanović next to his house half way down the street. I stop for a chat. It is drizzling, and so I step closer to him to cover his head with my umbrella. “What a horrible weather,” he mutters and looks toward the sky. “Perhaps it’ll even snow on Učka, like it did last year around this time.” I nod in agreement and smile. “And it’s all our doing,” Mato shakes his head. “I agree with you completely,” I chuckle and wave him goodbye. But I keep thinking about the gap between so many people in the hilltown, who think just like Mato, and the scientific community. Quite a few scientists still doubt that the funny weather is our doing. On occasion I cannot but feel ashamed of myself for being a part of that community, if that is the right word to describe it. Community, what community?
