ON SELF-CONSTRUCTION (May 24, 2014)
Over lunch, my beloved and I had an interesting conversation. She was critical of me, but she was not sure of the words to use to describe my faults. My major fault, that is. “You sometimes criticize me for my tendency toward self-destruction,” she said at some point, “but you are exactly the opposite.” She wanted to say that I was over-confident, but the term she actually used attracted me at once. “Are you accusing me of self-construction?” I asked with a grin on my face. She did not like the term, let alone my attitude, but she could not come up with a better one. I find it very to my taste, though. Self-construction is very much a part of my ideas about making oneself as the ultimate object of art. Of course, over-confidence goes with it, as well. An artist who is lacking in confidence is hardly an artist, at any rate. Be that as it may, self-construction is my major fault according to a fellow human being who knows me very well. Hooray!
