NO-BULLSHIT TIT-FOR-TAT (August 25, 2014)

Now that I have given up on my species, and for good, I am floating free, as it were. And it is a wonderful state of being, to be sure. Given that nothing can be done about the human condition, I am retired for true. All my obligations now point inward. This includes my beloved and a few people close to the two of us. But I am surprised by a thought that has just crossed my mind without warning: what is the moral status of my absolution? Without much thought, I remember the one and only moral principle to which primates subscribe without exemption: tit-for-tat. And I am no exception, to be sure. Giving up on my fellow humans does not violate the moral principle in question in any way whatsoever. But I would never give up on the few people close to me. My own tribe, that is. In fact, I would even give my life for it. So much for the moral status of my absolution. No-bullshit tit-for-tat, to coin a term. Everything else is for the birds, as well as all the idle philosophers who have ever meddled with morals.
