MY STATUE (December 15, 2014)
It is hard to believe, but I went to pay my income tax as soon as I arrived in the Croatian capital this afternoon. I have to do this every single month, and a branch of one of my two banks in this country is quite close to my beloved’s apartment building. The pedestrian area in the city was amazing to behold so close to Christmas, but taxes are taxes. I could not believe myself, but I could not wait with my financial obligations toward the state. Which is why I like to go on and on about a statue I want in the center of Pazin. Life sized, it should be made of bronze. Underneath my name on the pedestal, it should be written in large lettering that I am the most honest citizen of Croatia. Out of some four-million and a half people living in this country, the tax authorities in Pazin got lucky to have me under their jurisdiction. Thus my statue as a sign of appreciation on their part. I should be an example for all. Everyone laughs at my mention of the statue, but I am quite serious. And my rush to the bank today only shows how serious I am. Taxes are taxes, as I already said.
