MY GROWING ENTHUSIASM (June 15, 2014)
Motovun Downtown ended so graciously and so smoothly that I am getting a bit concerned about my growing enthusiasm. I laud the Youth Association of Motovun whenever I get a chance. Also, I laud the Municipality of Motovun for its contribution to the endeavor. In fact, I am so enthusiastic about the whole thing that it occasionally seems to me that I am losing my grip on reality. “Hey,” I remind myself ever anew, “it’s only a bicycle race!” But to no avail. So many young people from the hilltown and the surrounding villages had done a wonderful job. And this is far from an exaggeration, for there had been not a glitch in the two-day event involving hundreds of people, which ended only a short while ago. More important, the same young people who had run the show from start to finish would be capable of working together on any other project involving the entire community. And this is where my concern about exaggeration comes into play time and again. Any other project? The entire community? I cannot but remain enthusiastic about the young people of Motovun, though. “Yes,” I keep reassuring myself, “any other project involving the entire community!” To wit, I am quite powerless against my growing enthusiasm. And the blissful experience of the last two days makes it only worse.
