LITTLE TOES (June 27, 2014)
The weather is balmy and people are parading around central Zagreb in T-shirts, shorts, and sandals. It does not take long to notice that about a half of women in sandals have their little toes maimed by shoes. They are bruised and calloused. What does this tell you about women? But it does not take me long to remember my beloved’s little toes, and especially the left one. Maimed by shoes, it immediately attracted my deepest feelings (“With Feeling,” June 29, 1998). For better or worse, her left little toe still looks exactly as it did sixteen years ago, and it still attracts my deepest feelings year after year (“Her Little Toes,” December 31, 2008). What does this tell you about men, though?
