KIND OF CHEATING (March 10, 2014)

Just as I am mentally preparing for my return to Motovun, I bump into Davor Sviličić, known to all as Mihec, and the oldest of his three sons, Mihael, in the center of Zagreb. They are visiting their wife and mother, Lorena, who is to be operated tomorrow in one of the leading hospitals in the Croatian capital. We gab for a few hours in the Bulldog Pub. As neighbors from Borgo, we are pretty close. By the time we say goodbye, we have talked about quite a few people from the hilltown. Having sent my best wishes to Lorena, I hug Mihec and Mihael one more time, and I head toward my beloved’s apartment. In a short while, she will be back from her office, and we will be going out for a late lunch or an early dinner. But I feel a bit awkward about my meeting with the Sviličićs. Although I will be staying in Zagreb for another ten days or so, I am in Motovun with one foot already. I feel that I am kind of cheating on my beloved, that is. Although this is how I always feel at the end of the winter, this time around the feeling is accentuated by the unexpected meeting with my neighbors. Oh, how I hugged them when I first spotted them! My love of Motovun seems to be coming back to me.
