JUST LIKE SPRING (January 16, 2014)

The weather in the Croatian capital is simply stunning. It is sunny and balmy. And weather forecasts are splendid: next week is supposed to be just like spring.

Addendum (January 17, 2014)

Slowly but surely, I am getting bored by haiku such as this one. The weather is all over the place, and that is that. I have written about it so many times that there is no reason to keep writing about it any longer. Enough is enough, I chastise myself over and over again, but to no avail. Why do I persist? The best I can come up with in my defense is that I am simply amazed by the blindness to global warming around me. Even when the rapidly changing weather is acknowledged as such, it is most often played down as a nuisance to get used to. The fact that so many species of plants and animals are getting confused about the weather is reported all right, and in painstaking detail, but the broader consequences of such confusions are not even considered. Thus I feel that the inner voice that is hushing me down from time to time is hardly my own. I feel that I am being brainwashed into believing that everything will be just fine no matter what happens with the weather, and I cannot but resist it. Put differently, haiku such as this one are likely to persist. As are my claims that they are boring me to death, I am afraid.
