IN SEARCH OF A PROOFREADING ROBOT (December 11, 2014)
Whenever I spend any length of time reading my Residua on the World Wide Web, I discover so many typos that I am quickly disgusted with reading, not to mention my magnum opus as such. Every now and then, I have to fix some idiotic mistake that has slipped past me unnoticed, sometimes for an embarrassing amount of time. By the way, I just spotted one such that was no less than fifteen years old, and I took care of it at once both on the web and in the original on the desktop computer in my study. Whence this lament, it goes without saying. I sometimes dream of hiring someone to proofread my writings once and for all, but I am aware that he or she would have to be a saint. Typos would be the least of the proofreader’s problems, I reckon. And it would both take years and cost a mint. Come to think of it, I would need a robot for the thankless job. Sooner or later, such a wonder of software development is sure to appear on the market, if it is not available already. Anyhow, I am in search of one. Let us hope that this piece of writing will lead me to the robot of my dreams. Quiet, meticulous, fast… Yes, and secretive!
Addendum (October 27, 2017)
Alas, I ended up being the proofreading robot of my dreams! I have been copyediting my Residua for several months now, and I have a few months more to go through. It is a thankless job, as it were, but I relish every single boo-boo I come across. And there are many of them, it goes without saying. By the time I am finished, though, there will be so few of them that even a robot would envy me. Or so I hope. Anyhow, I am ready to challenge any proofreading robot once my job is done. When it comes to boo-boos of all descriptions, I am a proofreader to reckon with. Ha!
