While I am in Zagreb, my bills accumulate in my post office box in Motovun. Thus I have an arrangement with the post office back home to send me my mail to my beloved’s address during the winter months. They wait for my call, and then they put everything in my box into a large envelope, which they send to me by post. As most of my bills come due around the middle of the month, I called the post office in Motovun yesterday morning. It was Tuesday, and I hoped to receive the large envelope by Friday at the latest. But it arrived this morning, and I immediately paid my bills in a post office not far from my beloved’s apartment building. I am delighted by the postal service in Croatia, though. My mail reached me in one single day. Although I am quite happy to criticize this country for its weaknesses, of which there are many, I am equally as happy to report its few strengths. And the postal service is definitely among the latter. In fact, it is excellent. After more than ten years in Croatia, this I solemnly swear.
