HUMANE HUMANS (December 10, 2014)
Every few days, I take some old bread to the birdhouse in my garden. The bread goes quickly enough, and especially during the cold months. Having just taken more bread to the birdhouse, I discovered a discarded lighter on my way back to the house. Someone who stopped at the empty lot between Irina Kosanović’s house and my house to admire the view of the Mirna valley threw it away when it stopped working. A moment later, I discovered a plastic bottle discarded in a similar way. Only tourists stop at the empty lot. And they throw away whatever they do not need any longer. After so many years of never-ending talk about the need to cherish the environment, most people could not care less about it. None of their business, that is. What is more, they make sure that you get their message as you collect all the garbage they leave in their wake. Humans. Even worse, humane humans bursting with humanistic humanity. Are there any pejoratives that could ever match these?
