GODS AS PUNCH BAGS (March 5, 2014)
I woke up angry with my own body. There is always something, but sometimes miseries pile up. As one gets longer in the tooth, this happens ever more often. This morning I had problems with my right contact lens and my dripping nose. Also, my left foot was kind of twisted when I woke up. On top of that, I had hard time shitting. Having pushed and pushed, I produced only a few tiny but tough turds. “God,” I felt like shouting out loud, “fuck this creation of yours!” On mornings like this one, I also get angry that there is no divinity of any kind. Pure invention. Nature is not even worthy of anger, I suppose. All it amounts to is mindless bungling for ever and ever. A divinity would come handy when one gets annoyed with so many boo-boos of this wretched world. Come to think of it, though, perhaps this is why there is the very idea of divinity. As a part of its mindless bungling, nature has come up with a brain capable of coming up with the guilty ones so as to focus the anger of its innocent creatures. Not a bad idea, this. Gods as punch bags, as it were.
