DEER IN MY GARDEN (April 9, 2014)

I just saw a couple of deer in my garden. It was exactly eleven o’clock in the morning. I walked to the terrace to admire the wisteria on its north wall, and then I noticed movement in the garden. The deer struck me as huge, or at least much bigger than I expected them to be. They darted through dense bushes toward Irina Kosanović’s garden north of mine. And then they disappeared in the thicket. I have heard from several of my neighbors about deer in their gardens, but much earlier in the day. They usually appear just after dawn, which would be around six o’clock this time of the year. I got lucky today, it appears. Gosh, the deer were gorgeous! Brownish gray with black and white bums. And in my garden of all places! Motovun offers many an unsuspected delight, but this one took me nearly eleven years. Alleluia!
