DAVID BECKHAM TO THE RESCUE (February 3, 2014)
Lego is in the news. David Beckham of the global soccer fame has revealed that he plays with Lego bricks to control anxiety. His children’s toy helps him calm down. At thirty-eight, he has found a pastime to his taste. Soon to be sixty-eight, I am with him. Although I do not play with Lego bricks to control anxiety, I find them a great joy (“Construction, Deconstruction,” December 10, 2013). My beloved’s apartment is crawling with my constructions as of late. I can only hope that Beckham’s revelation will propel Lego into new prominence. Many adults would find the toy a pastime of choice. Lego certainly beats television and radio. It beats many a bad book, as well. At any rate, I hope that the toy company is paying attention to the unexpected opportunity, for an entirely new market is at hand. And Beckham would most likely usher it with pleasure.
