CREATURES OF HORROR (September 3, 2014)
Wherever I go on the World Wide Web, I come across weird creatures that are supposed to scare me out of my wits. I cannot remember all their names, but vampires, zombies, and wolverines come to mind at once. In their wild states, all these creatures show bloody eyes and teeth. But most of them are ridiculous at best. I cannot imagine going to see a movie about any of the above, let alone reading a comic or even a novel about them. Perish the thought. What I find amazing about horror in all its presently available guises is that humans are in the need of make-believe creatures to get scared. Really scared. What is wrong with humans, though? Are they not the only creatures of horror worth troubling with? As far as I am concerned, I am most scared of perfectly normal humans. The more normal, the more scared I get, as a matter of fact. For that is where all the horrors actually hide. Vampires, zombies, and wolverines are inventions of perfectly normal humans, too. It is them who concoct all the movies, cartoons, and novels about such ridiculous creatures. And it is them who enjoy their own inventions the most. Come to think of it, how about a movie, comic, or novel about one of these perfectly normal humans? Hey, I am getting scared already…
