CONTINUOUSLY CHANGING MIND (May 5, 2014)
When it comes to tourists in Motovun, I am of two minds. Although I occasionally find them fun to watch, for quite a number of them are no less than hilarious in their vacation gear, I feel annoyed by them more often than not. By and large, they are way too loud, as well as oblivious to those who still happen to be living here. Tourist children are especially hard to bear because they are often let loose by their worn-out parents. But I also feel happy when I see tourists milling about because I know that many people in these parts make their living from them. Empty streets and squares mean less money for so many people I know well and feel close to. This worries me especially at the beginning of the tourist season, when I know that many people in Motovun are barely making their ends meet. Which is why tourists annoy me ever more as the season gets longer and longer, as well as why I am quite happy to see them go by its end. This means that I am actually not of two minds about tourists in Motovun. Rather, I am of one but continuously changing mind. Luckily for me, the tourist season has just started with Easter and May Day. Tourists are still fun to watch, that is.
