A SINGLE BUSLOAD (November 15, 2014)

It is a pleasure sitting on the lower square around noon today. Marko’s and Klaudio’s are open. Both terraces are crowded. There is much banter and laughter across the square. At least a dozen tables are full. Although everyone around is dressed for the fall, it feels like the tourist season is still going strong. But it does not take long to figure out what is going on. Nearly all the tables are occupied by a busload of Austrian pensioners, who are far from shy. A single busload! In fact, only two tables are occupied by a few others. It is a lottery this time of the year. Had the bus with Austrian pensioners gone somewhere else in Istria, the lower square would have been almost empty, and the good cheer would have been nearly unimaginable. The lottery still works in Motovun’s favor, for it is so small. A single busload makes quite a difference this time of year.
