A DEPLORABLE OMISSION (March 1, 2014)
Having searched my Residua for depression as a state of mind rather than an economic condition, which is one of my favorite subjects as of late, I turn to a number of other websites. My head starts spinning soon enough. The subject is covered quite thoroughly on the World Wide Web. Surprisingly so, as a matter of fact. There are thousands upon thousands of available sites. As well as cures for depression, which are not exactly what I am looking for. Getting confused in no time, I end up on Wikipedia, which is comforting in its familiarity. And the very first paragraph I find at its site is quite to my liking:
Depression is a state of low mood and aversion to activity that can affect a person’s thoughts, behavior, feelings, and a sense of wellbeing. Depressed people feel sad, anxious, empty, hopeless, worried, helpless, worthless, guilty, irritable, hurt, or restless. They may lose interest in activities that once were pleasurable, experience loss of appetite or overeating, have problems concentrating, remembering details, or making decisions, and may contemplate, attempt, or commit suicide. Insomnia, excessive sleeping, fatigue, loss of energy, or aches, pains, or digestive problems may also be present.[1]
Good stuff. This is exactly what I have been looking for. But why am I interested in all this? Because I am convinced that depression as described in this paragraph would be the most natural condition for all humans at this time. Given all the givens, the species is up shit creek. Thus, everyone should be depressed. The only mystery about depression, which affects ever-larger numbers, is that not everyone is depressed. For instance, I am not suffering from depression even though I am convinced that I should be. The way I think about it, I should be cured from not being depressed. Disappointingly, such a cure is not yet available. In my mind, this is a deplorable omission.
