1492, 2014 (February 12, 2014)
I am amused to read that Madrid has opened the door to Sephardic Jews by offering citizenship to those among them whose ancestors hail from Spain. This applies to no less than three-million and a half Jews. Having been expelled in 1492 together with the Muslims, they waited a bit more than half a millennium for the historic reversal. Five-hundred and twenty-two years, to be exact. But the first thing that comes to my mind upon reading the news is that Spain must be up shit creek, financially and otherwise. This was the one and only reason why European kings of old had ever invited Jews to their turfs. Would that they were still as astute as before about things financial. Now that loaning money and collecting interest is no longer a mortal sin in the Catholic world, finance is at the very heart of capitalism. Most of the Jews are neither here nor there when it comes to money nowadays. But I wonder when Madrid will open doors to all Muslims whose ancestors hail from Spain. Many of them are bound to have some oil, at least.
