“US FOURTH OF JULY WEEKEND MARRED BY SPATE OF GUN VIOLENCE” (July 6, 2014)

Thus The Guardian today. “Houston gunman opened fire on crowd at music festival injuring four, as Chicago and Indianapolis saw at least twenty-eight people shot,” elaborates the newspaper. Chicago leads to roost, though. Since the three-day weekend began on Thursday afternoon, at least thirty-six people were shot in the city. By local standards, this is good news, at least for the victims of gun violence. Last year, twelve people were shot dead and sixty-two were wounded during the Fourth of July weekend. For better or worse, this Sunday is still open to the gunmen. The end of the Independence Day festivities is surely worth their attention. And I am sure America can do much better in the years to come. Let it rip, gunmen! And in the name of freedom!
