“US AIR STRIKES IN SYRIA DRIVING ANTI-ASSAD GROUPS TO SUPPORT ISIS” (November 23, 2014)

Thus The Guardian today. “Fighters from the Free Syrian Army and several Islamic military groups say ISIS is gaining allies or truces due to US bombings,” elaborates the newspaper. Put simply, the Islamic State of Syria and Iraq is only gaining through American bombing campaign. Support for ISIS among civilians is growing, as well. As one of the recent defectors from FSA reports: “Now ISIS is like a magnet that attracts large number of Muslims.” An FSA fighter concurs: “There’s no way we would fight ISIS after the US military campaign against them.” And another one drives the point home: “I’m really scared that eventually most of the people will join ISIS out of their disappointment with the US administration.” All of this stands to reason. Anyone who understands the Middle East well enough would predict such a reaction. Not even the Americans are stupid enough to misconstrue what is going on, it goes without saying. The only question is why are they rallying behind ISIS, albeit with some cunning. Is the ploy meant to eventually hurt Russia or Europe? Or perhaps both? Come to think of it, India and China are within ISIS’s reach, as well.
