“THE SILVER ECONOMY” (October 20, 2014)
Thus the Financial Times today. “The birth of a new and powerful consumer class,” elaborates the newspaper. A bunch of grey people are shown in the accompanying image. Surprise, surprise. The babyboomers again! What is amazing about my generation is that it keeps surprising all and sundry from its long birth in the wake of World War II to its retirement age today. It is its amazing bulk that remains mindboggling throughout. The generation! But it is already clear that the good doctors and the pharmaceutical industry are the real winners with the likes of me. The food supplement industry and nursing homes come next in line. And so forth. Many industries and services will get fat with the declining babyboomers. In a short while, it will be the undertakers, to be sure. Graveyards will stretch to the horizon in a few short decades. And the silver economy will finally meet its maker. Hooray!
