“THE GOOD DOGS OF WAR” (November 1, 2014)
Thus The Wall Street Journal today. “US soldiers’ best friends use their superior senses to sniff out roadside bombs in ways no sensor ever could,” explains the newspaper. The article comes with a nice picture of an American soldier with his dog. Although I was surprised by it, I found the article very to my liking. More, I relished it. Not only the American soldiers enjoy the friendship of dogs, it goes without saying, but it is amazing that no technology available today even in America beats man’s best friend in so many things essential to war. As well as tough situations of all sorts. And the friendship goes all the way back to prehistory. Once upon a time, dogs were wolves. For my sins, I could not but think about posthistory, too. As if by miracle, the friendship will keep going no matter what. There is no need to think about it or argue about it, let alone do a thing about it, for it will keep going all by itself. But it is wonderful to know ahead of time that this is simply so. Interspecies friendship forever.
