“IS THE INTERNET ‘FULL’ AND GOING TO SHUT DOWN?” (August 14, 2014)
Thus The Guardian today. “Reports state that the Internet is running out of space, but is this really a problem, and do we have to worry about it?” asks the newspaper. Apparently, this is because the number of Internet connections has risen above a crucial limit. This limit has to do with the number of concurrent connections made to routers that underpin the whole system. On top of that, some of the hardware used for this purpose is on its hind legs, as well. A small number of websites could thus have been taken momentarily offline. According to the experts, though, the Internet is safe for now. If users have not noticed any difficulties so far, they will not see any from now on. Phew! The article got me worried, I must admit. Really worried. For all my bravado about modern technology, most of which I sincerely despise, the Internet is kind of close to my heart. Nay, soul. In fact, I can hardly imagine my life without it any longer. Without my two sites, I would be an invalid, and in the original sense of that treacherous word. Not valid, that is.
