Thus one senior American official to another in a leaked conversation about the Ukraine crisis. The leak probably comes from Russia, but it is felicitous as it is. The undiplomatic language says it all. I wonder how many people in the European Union and elsewhere have found it to their liking, but I certainly have. For it is not only the senior American officials who have had enough of the quagmire in Brussels. And especially when the going gets tough. It is a miracle whenever the Union officials, senior or otherwise, move their finger. The leaked comment might start them thinking, though. That is the biggest hope in the wake of this diplomatic scandal.
