“EROTOMANIE, DANSE MACABRE, FOU RIRE GÉNÉRAL… CES ÉTRANGES ÉPIDÉMIES” (August 11, 2014)

Thus Le Monde today. “Maux étranges et inexpliqués, ces cas continuent de fasciner les scientifiques,” explains the newspaper. “Retrouvez l’intégralité de notre série d’été ‘Etranges épidémies’.” The invitation is accompanied by a series of illustrations of very bad taste. I am sure not to follow the series, but not on account of the illustrations. For I already know the source of all the strange epidemics: climate change. Deep down, the human race is preparing for the worse. Not able to comprehend what is coming along due to their low intelligence, humans can “feel” it nonetheless. How? Call it intuition if you like, but it is a form of collective intelligence that governs much of the life of the hapless species. Strange epidemics are thus likely to be the rage in the years to come. They will get ever stranger, too. In this sense at least, the French newspaper is surely onto something. And this is perhaps enough at this stage of the global turmoil.
