“DIM FUTURE FOR EUROPE’S YOUTH” (August 10, 2014)
Thus The Wall Street Journal today. “In Europe’s weaker economies, many people in their twenties and thirties have little hope of achieving the careers, wealth, and economic security enjoyed by their parents, and are dependent on short-term contracts,” explains the newspaper. There can be hardly any argument about this. Indeed, the youth in Europe’s weaker economies faces dim future. How about Europe’s stronger economies, though? Is the future bright for the youth there? At best, the future is only slightly less dim in Europe’s stronger than in its weaker economies. And how about America? The same is true once again. Across Europe and America, many people in their twenties and thirties have little hope of achieving the careers, wealth, and economic security enjoyed by their parents. On both sides of the Atlantic, they are dependent on short-term contracts, too. But an alarming article about the dim future of Europe and America’s youth will have to wait a few more years.
